Grace in her studio.

Creativity is at the heart of Grace Modla's life -- whether as a wife and mother, or as an award-winning artist, writer, performer, educator, and activist. Born in Northern Italy, her family emigrated when she was a child, and she began drawing and painting at an early age.  Her subjects center on Nature, Angels, Nudes, and Abstracts -- exploring the intersecting spaces and liminal borderlands where the material & spiritual worlds meet.  She uses acrylics, watercolors, oil pastels, and ink with hand-sharpened sticks to create her current “Wild Garden” series.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, solo and juried group shows, fine arts festivals, and private collections in the States, Canada, and Europe.  With her husband, sons, and an adorable Sheltie, she lives and works in Holmdel, New Jersey.  She is currently pursuing a Masters in Divinity at Drew Theological Seminary.
